Prof. Wasim Ahmad Awarded For Outstanding Contribution To Animal Taxonomy

Prof. Wasim Ahmad has been conferred upon, the prestigious EK Janki Ammal award for outstanding contribution to Animal taxonomy. He was honoured in a grand function at New Delhi. Hon’ble Minister Of Environment And Forest Mr. Jairam Ramesh presented him with a Medallion, a scroll, a citation and a cash prize of INR 1,00,000.

Prof. Wasim Ahmad, Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University Recieving E.K. Janaki Ammal National Award From Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Minister of Environment and Forest, Government of India and Mr. Achim Steiner, UN Undersecretary General and Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The award carries a medallion, a scroll, a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-.

Prof. Wasim is from the Department of Zoology, AMU Aligarh and dons numerous titles to his credit. He is one of those rare scientist who have the honour of entire Genus of namatodes named after them. The dedication of genus Wasimella enigmatus to his name, speaks of his quality contribution to the nematode world. Several other new species have been dedicated in his name, Laimydorus wasimi, Mylonchulus wasimi, Helicotylenchus wasimi, Aporcelaimellus ahmadi etc.

He has visited many countries as an expert of nematode taxonomy and is recipient of prestigious visiting fellowships from Royal Society, London (UK), Dutches Forschungsgemeinschaft (Germany), Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (Japan), Erasmus Mundus Scholar (European Union), Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), Third World Academy of Science (Italy), Korean Science Foundation (Korea), Raffles Museum Visiting Fellowship (Singapore), Institute Nacional de Biodiversidad (Costa Rica) etc.,

AMU MBBS BDS 2011 – 2012 Batch, Entrance Test Results Declared

AMU News 19 June 2011: The results of AMU MBBS BDS Entrance Test result for the batch of 2011 – 2012 was declared.

The candidates selected in MBBS will have their admission formalities on 11nth of July 2011 while BDS candidates will undergo the process on 12th July 2011. Candidates are advised to reach the faculty of medicine with all their required documents.

AMU News June 11: Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen. H. M. Ghalib S. H. and his team visited Aligarh Muslim University for cooperative research in Islamic Studies. The VC of State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta, Indonesia Prof. Komaruddin Hidayat, said that AMU has a great reserve of Knowledge and it will help them strengthen their courses. Hel also showed interest in the concept of “Split Degree” where, a student may study 2 years in AMU and Two years in Indonesia.

AMU News June 6: The largest reservoir of talents, AMU Aligarh has given yet another talented team which emerged right from the final year B. Tech Students.

Shahwaz Beg, Vikas Sharma and Aamir Qutub have made a new fully customizable web based ERP program. It is not only customizable, but also very low on resource requirements. It doesn’t need dedicated servers to run this piece of software. The programming language used is php where other ERPs are based on rigid framework of .net. Prof. Khusro Qasim of mechanical Engineering is their guide, who mentored this project. As its hallmark consumption of low energy is evident , it has been named as GreenERP.

AMU News June 3: Foundation for a conference hall and lecture theatre was laid for the the Department of Chemistry, AMU Aligarh. It is worth mention that Department of Chemistry has produced numerous scientists working all across the globe. Dr. Suhail Sabir is probably one of the most loved teachers of AMU and is from this very department.

Reports reveal that UGC has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 73.56 lacs under XI Plan for constructing a 50 seated lecture theatre and 100 seated Conference room with other amenities attached to it. The project is most likely to be completed by December this year(2011).

Two New Hostels At Begum Sultan Jahan Hall Of AMU

AMU News June 2: Two new hostels are planned for construction in relation with Begum Sultan Hall Of AMU. The VC laid the foundation stones and addressed the gathering on this occasion. The Hall Magazine “Sultania 2011″ was also released by the VC . He quoted about the achievements of Begum Sultan Jahan in the field of education and women empowerment. She was the chancellor of AMU in 1920.

At this very occasion the VC also praised the donations made by Begum Of Murshidabad and told that by opening satellite centres, we are paying back for her kindness.

Prof. S. H. Hashmi is the Editor of this peer reviewed journal. Attempts are on to get it indexed in various international indices.
